Dynamical systems can describe natural systems (e.g., systems biology), electro- mechanical systems, and even numerical and computing algorithms. While many systems can be adequately analysed using linear approximations, it is frequently necessary to examine nonlinear models to obtain better performance.
Large-scale interconnected nonlinear systems are increasingly important, with examples ranging from gene regulatory networks to iterative decoding algorithms for forward error correction codes to electricity grids to irrigation networks. These large-scale systems can be often be modeled as individual nonlinear dynamical subsystems with an associated graph describing the interconnect structure of the subsystems.
This project is developing novel analysis and design tools for large-scale nonlinear dynamical systems for application specifically in numerical algorithms and power systems.
